Milestone | Jordan Thompson

On Saturday we get to celebrate Jordan “Flanders” Thompson as he reaches his 100th First Grade cap for the Owls. Jordan’s story is a special one — not just because he’s hit 100 games, but because of how he’s done it. Hailing from Rockhampton, QLD (grubs), JT made his mark on the club almost immediately with his long left boot and, more importantly, his beautiful nature as a human being. For many who walk through the gates of North Oval, having a trick up the sleeve for the game — and countless more for the RUC — would be enough. But not for our JT.
Jordan further solidified himself in the Owls family by showing just how deeply he cares for this club. None more so than the year he applied for — and won — the position of Head Greenskeeper at ANU. This meant Jordan became responsible for our home away from home, The Barn. That year, The Barn never looked better. Through countless scrums, mauls, and drills in the same patch of turf, it remained the hallowed ground we Owls always picture it to be. That was no accident — it was the work of someone who truly cares about the place and the family who call it home.
Regardless of the environment, situation, or circumstance, Jordan applies the same care and effort. Tuesday and Thursday evenings at North Oval mean many things to many people — but for Jordan, it’s always been his way of giving back. Over the years, as club captain, kit transporter, and First Grade player, he’s carried a full plate. Yet not once — not ever — has there been a complaint. Same on the field: never a complaint, always looking for the next job, always lifting others up and celebrating their efforts. That’s the kind of teammate and clubman everyone wants.
So this Saturday, at Campese Oval, as you watch JT run out onto the pitch, please be upstanding. Be sure to have something in hand to raise above your head and take in the journey he’s walked with effortless humility and care.
Congratulations, Jordan — none more deserving.
