Join the Owls Women’s Rugby Family in 2026

The Uni-Norths Owls are calling for women interested in playing XV or X rugby for the 2026 season. Whether you’re an experienced player looking to take your game to the next level, or someone who’s never picked up a rugby ball before, there’s a place for you in this club.

A Program Built for Development

The Owls women’s program has earned its reputation as one of the best club training programs in Australia. It’s not just talk, it’s a carefully structured pathway that accommodates everyone from complete beginners to international players, all within a group setting that promotes learning and growth.

The program recognises that women’s rugby operates at different levels. The Premier 15s competition provides first-grade rugby for experienced players, while the 10s format offers beginners and less experienced players the chance to develop their skills, confidence and rugby IQ alongside more seasoned teammates.

What Does Your Week Look Like?

Tuesday nights focus on skills development, while Thursday sessions are all about team play. But the support doesn’t stop there, coaches are available before and after training for those wanting to work on personal development areas.

Saturdays are game day, followed by celebrations at the RUC or involvement in club social activities. It’s rugby, but it’s also community.

A Culture That Elevates

The Owls set the bar high, then provide the support to help you reach it. This collaborative and supportive environment has seen players progress from club level to compete for premierships, and go on to represent their region, play Super W, and even earn international honours.

“Players thrive on the feedback and challenges to improve that are put to them,” says Head Coach, Andris ‘Ziggy’ Balmaks. “The women respond positively to produce really entertaining and high quality rugby.”

New to Rugby? Returning After Time Away?

The coaching team understands that everyone starts somewhere. Focused support is provided to new and returning players to build solid foundations, improve skills, and develop confidence. The goal isn’t just to create rugby players, it’s to ensure everyone enjoys the journey.

The message to anyone hesitant? “Give it a go – you’ll love the challenge and personal growth, and make some life-long friends along the way.”

Building the Future

This season, the Owls are focused on laying foundations for the next five years as senior players step up to Super W and international duties. Competing in club competition finals remains the standard, but achieving this requires new players to build a solid pipeline for the future.

That’s where you come in.
