The Uni-Norths Owls Women’s XV faced a tough challenge against the Vikings in the Bentspoke Premier 15s, but despite a valiant effort, the Owls fell short in a 31-27 loss. The match was a hard-fought battle, with the Vikings capitalising on several early tries, but the Owls responded with spirit and determination throughout the game.

 

The Vikings started strong, with early tries from Jade Bunn, Vika Ngata, and Siena Edwards, putting them in a commanding position. The Owls, however, did not let this discourage them. Holly George got the Owls on the scoreboard with a determined try that showcased her speed and skill, but the Vikings continued their attack and added another try through Ro Unaisi Radinitakala Bonawai.

 

The Owls showed resilience in the face of this pressure, and it was Elodie Galinier who sparked a renewed energy in the team, crossing for a try of her own to keep the Owls in contention. Despite a further try from Vikings’ Tijana Zdravevska, the Owls were not out of the game yet and had much to play for in the second half.

 

With the scoreline heavily in favour of the Vikings, the Owls knew they needed to act quickly. They came out with more intensity in the second period, and Liana Taufa’ao’s powerful try gave the Owls a glimmer of hope. Meilani Salale continued the fight with another impressive try, pulling the Owls to within four points of the Vikings.

 

Despite their best efforts and several substitutions that brought fresh legs into the game, the Owls were unable to get the points they needed in the final stages. The Vikings’ defence stood firm, and they held on for the win.
