29 November 1940 - 27 January 2026 The recent passing of Jim Ferguson was sad and unexpected. Jim has maintained a strong work ethic for his entire life, remaining an active advocate for sport in the ACT and for Australia. Jim played a significant role in the development of the Australian sport system in the lead up to the 2000 Sydney Olympic and Paralympic Games. 17 April 1945 - 12 October 2025 Peter Catling grew up in Albury going to Albury Grammar School where he excelled at athletics and played "Aussie Rules" and only commenced playing Rugby at Wagga Ag College where he graduated after 3 years with a Diploma in Agriculture. After a couple of years working at CSIRO he decided to enhance his qualifications by commencing a Science course at ANU, working part time cleaning bus shelters amongst other jobs. The Uni-Norths Owls got their first real hit-out of the year on Saturday 7 March, with teams spread across multiple venues in a big day of trial rugby ahead of the 2026 season. In Canberra, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, Colts and the Women’s XV took on Gordon in valuable pre-season match-ups, giving players and coaches their first chance to test combinations and build momentum heading into the year. What a night for our Uni-Norths Owls representatives! Both the men’s ACT & SNSW Griffins and women’s ACT & SNSW Kestrels put on standout performances against Rugby Victoria in their final clashes at Brumbies HQ on Saturday evening. The Griffins dominated their encounter, with precision and power across the park to secure a solid victory, getting up 38-25. Two Owls Named in Australia A Squad
The Uni-Norths Owls are proud to announce that two of our own, Rhys van Nek and Ollie Sapsford, have been selected for the Australia A squad set to face Japan XV in Osaka.
