Owls’ Grand Final Triumph Isn’t Just a Win- It’s a Boost for ACT Rugby

A huge shout-out to Riot Canberra for spotlighting what was a landmark achievement for our club and for rugby across the ACT.

In their recent feature, “The Uni-Norths Owls claiming the John I Dent Cup is great for rugby in the ACT,” the article describes our 29–19 Grand Final victory over the 14-time champions, Tuggeranong Vikings, as “a testament not only to the playing ability but to the resilience of those involved behind the scenes at Uni-Norths.”

This isn’t just our story, it’s one about community, continuity, and the power of collective effort. After years without a senior Grand Final appearance, or win, since the ANU-Norths merger in 1998, this success reflects long-term resilience and renewed ambition.

The piece details how the club harnessed its legacy network, including stalwarts like Laurie Fisher and club sponsors such as Greg Boorer, to bridge gaps between junior promise and senior-level success.

It’s not only the men’s first-grade side writing the story either, our women’s team reached the Grand Final too, showcasing the club’s broader strength and inclusivity.

Our gratitude to Riot Canberra for recognising the effort and community spirit that fuels this club. Here’s to building on this milestone and shining even brighter for ACT rugby in the seasons to come!
