Big Day of Footy as Owls Kick Off 2026 Trials
The Uni-Norths Owls got their first real hit-out of the year on Saturday 7 March, with teams spread across multiple venues in a big day of trial rugby ahead of the 2026 season.
In Canberra, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, Colts and the Women’s XV took on Gordon in valuable pre-season match-ups, giving players and coaches their first chance to test combinations and build momentum heading into the year. The Owls 1st Grade side also had the special opportunity to run out at GIO Stadium, playing the curtain raiser ahead of the Brumbies vs Reds clash, a memorable experience for the group and a great showcase for club rugby on a big stage.
Meanwhile, a combined 3rd and 4th Grade squad travelled out west to take part in the Cowra 10s Gala Day, enjoying plenty of game time and representing the club strongly in a fast-paced day of rugby.
While results weren’t the focus of the day, the trials provided valuable minutes across the grades, with plenty of positives, lessons and combinations beginning to take shape. With players returning, new faces settling into the squad and teams starting to find their rhythm, the day marked an important step in preparations for the season ahead.
With the 2026 competition now only a few weeks away, the Owls will take the learnings from the weekend and continue building toward what promises to be another exciting year for the club.
