Owls Pasifika Jersey Presented to Fijian Prime Minister at Wallabies Test
In a powerful moment of cultural recognition and connection, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese presented a Uni-Norths Owls Pasifika jersey to Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during the Wallabies vs Fiji Test match on Sunday at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle.
The match was played for the Vuvale Bowl, a symbol of the close relationship between Australia and Fiji, and the jersey presentation served as an emotional nod to that shared history. Designed by members of the Owls playing group and first unveiled in 2024, the jersey represents Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, Aotearoa, the Cook Islands and the wider Pacific Islands. It acknowledges the deep ties Pasifika players and families have with the club, and the incredible cultural contribution they continue to make on and off the field.
Adding to the significance, Prime Minister Rabuka, a former Test front rower for Fiji, also played rugby for ANU back in the day, before the ANU, Uni and Norths clubs merged to form Uni-Norths Owls.
Moments like these highlight the power of sport in connecting people, preserving heritage and celebrating community. We’re proud to see the Owls Pasifika jersey represent not just our club, but a broader spirit of unity and respect across the Pacific.
