Uni Norths congratulates its players on a great weekend of rugby for the Owls.

Tensions were high as the Capital 7s title was won with a nail-biting finish on Saturday 4 November at newly opened Wellsvale Drive Playing Fields in Googong.

Freezing cold conditions didn’t stop the action with the Queanbeyan Whites, Uni-Norths Owls, Canberra Royals, Gungahlin Eagles, Wests Lions and Monaro hotly contesting the trophy in both the men’s and women’s division.

In the Men’s division, the Uni-Norths Owls went undefeated through their four regular rounds before coming up against the Canberra Royals in the Grand Final.

Fighting until the end, the teams drew 14-14 at full time, the Owls being crowned overall winner based on their win over Royals earlier in the day.

Margins were narrower in the Women’s division as Monaro and Wests were the teams to beat, each only dropping one game in the regular rounds.

2022 Round 2 winners Wests Lionesses beat Monaro 17-5 in the regular rounds, looking to go back-to-back as they faced each other in the Grand Final.

The script was flipped, however as Monaro muscled their way over the line beating Wests 24-5 and taking out the overall win.

Amongst the fast and fierce team efforts, there were individual displays of brilliance as Joey Henry (Canberra Royals), Abbie Bailey (Gungahlin Eagles) and Lily Delbridge (Uni-North Owls) all came away with five tries each to be crowned leading try and point scorers.

With this year’s club and representative rugby calendar concluded for the year a big thank you is in order to the Queanbeyan Whites for hosting the tournament and the ACT Rugby Referee’s Association for providing fantastic support officiating the matches throughout the day.
